Studio Stuff, books and bands
New music from tiny tigers coming soon. Not only are we working with one the UK's greatest producers, but I'm also now in a position to record bands with my own studio :o) Recorded a track with Tiny Tigers called 'Where do you go at night' and to be honest its sounding great already. Will be finishing the first mix this evening followed by more work on a lovely new side project of mine. Working with a vocal genius on studio band project. Its just the two of us, even though it sounds like a complete band set up with guitars, drums, bass, keyboards and noise. So much fun. Music is great. Recently read a really good book called 'Love is a mixed tape' if you're into music and ever made a mixed tape, then you should read this book. Its a really good reference to music from the 90's, tis funny and sad all at the same time. Bands I have recently discovered that are worth checking out are as follows: Fight Like Apes, Moto Boy, The Kabeedies, Punks Jump Up. All very good bands and are, I predict, ones to watch over the next few months. Blood Red Shoes: I know I've mentioned them before, but I'm mentioning them again now. Their album 'Box of secrets' came out in April and if you haven't heard it yet, I suggest you go online at HMV or the like and get a copy now. Its got some great tracks on there, but I have to say I do rather like the old recordings of the songs like ADHD and I wish I was someone better than the versions on the album. They are a bit too polished on the album. don't get me wrong, they still sound great, but just have lost a bit of the energy that was on the demo recordings. Same thing happened to Kenickie. They released these great EPs which got the attention of EMI who signed them, then cleaned up their songs. Again still good versions, but not as good as the EP versions.
Bloody dog!
Unbelievable! Yesterday afternoon I was locked out of my house by my dog. We are currently trying to train her to be ok with being on her own. Shes a rescue dog and gets into a bit of a state when left alone. Anyway so we try leaving her in the house by herself and when she jumped up at the door she managed to move a heavey bolt across which you can only open from the inside. Us being outside the house in the rain, we had to get a locksmith round to open the bloody door. I am now out of pocket 149.99 + VAT grrrrrrrrr. Ok the handle on the door had broken, and so it wasn't just the bolt the was keeping us out. In total it took around 2 hours to get sorted out. Rant over! Now back to work I go.
Tiny Tigers Back in Action
New Club Night
My friend Oli is running a night at the Griffin in Vauxhall. Its called Pie & Mash, and they do in fact serve pie & mash. How cool is that!!! Music until 2am and each night has a theme. I won't go on, but here's what they say about their night: http://www.pieandmashlondon.co.uk/ erm, hi! we're Oli and Ian. we've been fishing around for ages trying to find the perfect pub night for us. something with great, eclectic and hearty tunes, some decent nosh and an ambience totally free of attitude and pretension. we couldn't find it, so we created it ourselves. cheesy but true. PiE&MASH is our monthly effort at the Vauxhall Griffin. we love the venue because it's warm, friendly and they have a nice dog called nova. it's the right side of mixed and the right flavour of laid back. we love fresh music, old music, slightly electronic music and stuff with guitars. something old, something new, something borrowed but no Blue. we strive our hardest to avoid cliché and play tracks you're not fed up of hearing. peek a boo at our "playlist" and make your own mind up. we love nothing more than a nice bit of pie. as the night goes on, we'll be serving a slice of home-cooked hearty meaty/vegetable goodness, for a nominal charge. it is clinically irresistable. come help us celebrate the joy of pie, mash, london songs and london films on the last friday of every month in sunny vauxhallville.
Top Albums
Its such an exciting time for music at the moment. I have fallen in love with many albums recently, and so here's my top ten of the moment. Mountain Battles - The Breeders Get Awkward - Be Your Own Pet Yes Yes Vindictive - Operator Please Neptune - Operator Please This Gift - Sons & Daughters Superabundance - Young Knifes Hold On Now Youngster - Los Campesinos! Vampire Weekend - Vampire Weekend Box of Secrets - Blood Red Shoes Made in the Dark - Hot Chip All very good bands that I highly recommend. The Breeders are one of my favourite bands of all time. I saw them at Reading Festival a few years ago and they were amazing.
Road to V Festival
All is still on the gig front, but tiny tigers are still busy writing new songs, getting ready for our next release and more gigs which will kick start in May, which brings me onto.... http://www.roadtov.com/profile/42745
....V- FESTIVAL
We'd quite like to play at V this year, and so have entered ourselves into a wee competition. Please visit:
And say a few nice words about us. Our page looks a little lonely at the moment :o( and so we need your lovely ramblings to make it shine.
Hope all is well and good with you lot. New music coming soon..
Tiny Tigers work with top producer
Things are always on the up for Tiny Tigers, but we are very lucky that we've attracted the attention of a top producer. Someone I had the luck to work with in the past when I was in a band signed to a mini label touring with the Cranberries... we played at Wembley in fact! Enough of that though. So Tiny Tigers will be heading back to the studio to work with a top producer this summer. Bands on this guys CV include: Idlewild, The Charlatans, I was a Club Scout, Eighties Matchbox B-line, Stereolab, Dogs Die in Hot Cars, Placebo, Elastica, Client, Moby, Atomic Kitten, D4, and many, many more. In the meantime we're finishing off our next CD which will include tracks 'Dance with me' and 'Never Change'. Sounding good so far and will hopefully generate even more positive reviews. More news to follow soon.....
